Tarek Aboualam carries 25 years of Digital and Technology management experience with a track record of significant accomplishments in the European and Middle Eastern Telecommunications markets.
As Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Glint Consulting, Tarek leverages on his expertise to offer management consulting and investment services that aim to build successful companies and aid them in maximizing their value. Tarek brings forth widely diversified experience with a clear vision and understanding of industry trends and business directions. His high-level managerial skills are backed by a solid technical background and several years of hands-on experience in different ICT business areas, managing the establishment and turnaround of different sized companies, from small startups to large-scale incumbent with thousands of employees.
His experience spreads throughout the Middle East and Europe as his career drove him from one leading company to the next.
Tarek serves (and used to serve) as the non-executive Chairman and board member of different companies including ItaliaOnLine, ITNet (Italy); Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, TE Data, Xceed, Soficom Communications (Egypt); Inty (UK); Tellas (Greece); Tirocon (UAE); TEDJ (Jordan) and Mobiserve (Egypt, UAE & Pakistan). Before establishing Glint Consulting, Tarek played an integral role in leading mega-companies through turbulent times and safely securing their positions in the market with positive forecasts and sound financial performances.

In 2012, Tarek led the turnaround of Egypt’s incumbent operator Telecom Egypt (TE) in a challenging environment acting as TE’s CEO & Managing Director after serving as the Senior VP for International & Wholesale. TE is the largest fixed line service provider in MENA region offering capacity and International voice and data wholesale services to the Mobile operators. As TE’s CEO, and following a turbulent year in 2011, Tarek succeeded in leading the company’s 50,000 employees to achieving a very positive start to 2012 with sound financial performance and good progress against the company’s strategic objectives.
Between 2005 and 2008, Tarek actively contributed to the turnaround of the Italian integrated operator Wind Telecomunicazioni acting as the Planning and Business Intelligence Director of its Fixed Business Unit in charge of the business planning, market & business analysis, strategic program management and commercial product development. After returning from Italy, Tarek joined Wind’s holding company Orascom Telecom as the Fixed & Broadband Development Director.
Tarek co-founded and managed one of the first ISPs in the MENA region (Soficom Communications SAE) acquired at a later stage by Batelco of Bahrain. holds a bachelor degree in Telecommunications engineering from Alexandria University.
